7. Third-Party Material
Some articles may include figures, images, tables, datasets, text or other material owned by third parties.
Third-party material is covered by the article’s CC BY 4.0 licence only where the material is not accompanied by a separate credit line or licensing notice.
Where a credit line identifies different copyright or licensing conditions, users must comply with those conditions. If the intended reuse is not permitted by law or by the stated licence, permission must be obtained directly from the relevant copyright holder.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish third-party material before publication.
8. Research Data and Supplementary Materials
Research data, code and supplementary materials published with an article should be made openly available whenever ethically and legally possible.
Unless a separate licence is displayed, users should not assume that third-party datasets or externally hosted materials are covered by the article’s CC BY 4.0 licence.
Any access restriction arising from privacy, informed consent, confidentiality, national security, commercial sensitivity or applicable law must be explained in the article’s Data Availability Statement.
9. Article Processing Charges
Open access to published content is not conditional on payment by readers.
Frontiers in Business and AI charges an Article Processing Charge only after a manuscript has completed peer review and has been formally accepted for publication.
Payment of an Article Processing Charge:
-
Does not guarantee acceptance.
-
Does not influence peer review.
-
Does not influence editorial decisions.
-
Is not required before editorial acceptance.
-
Does not restrict free reader access after publication.
The applicable amount, currency, waiver rules and payment conditions are published separately on the journal’s Article Processing Charges page.
10. Fee Waivers and Editorial Independence
Decisions concerning Article Processing Charge waivers or discounts are handled separately from editorial assessment.
Editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts solely on scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope.
An author’s ability or inability to pay must not influence the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript.
11. Access to Corrections and Retractions
Corrections, retraction notices, expressions of concern and other notices affecting the scholarly record are made freely available without registration, payment or embargo.
Notices are linked to the relevant articles. Where an article is retracted, the original article will normally remain accessible and will be clearly marked as retracted to preserve the transparency of the scholarly record.
12. Machine Readable Licensing Information
The journal aims to display or embed licensing information in:
-
Article landing pages.
-
Full-text PDF files.
-
Full-text HTML files, where available.
-
Article metadata.
-
Repository and indexing metadata.
-
Digital Object Identifier registration metadata, where applicable.
The licensing information should identify the copyright holder and include a link to the applicable CC BY 4.0 licence.
13. No Reader Charges
The journal does not charge readers for:
-
Accessing article abstracts.
-
Reading full-text articles.
-
Downloading full-text articles.
-
Accessing supplementary materials hosted by the journal.
-
Viewing corrections or retraction notices.
-
Searching or browsing published content.
A charge may apply to an optional printed copy or separately requested service, but such a charge does not affect free access to the online scholarly content.
14. Permanence of Open Access
Once an article has been published as open access, the journal intends it to remain openly accessible permanently.
The journal will not later convert an openly published article into subscription-only or embargoed content.
Long-term access is supported through the journal’s archiving arrangements and the right of authors and repositories to preserve the Version of Record.
15. Open Access Definition
For the purposes of this policy, open access means that the copyright holder grants users the right, through an open licence, to access and reuse scholarly content immediately and without financial, legal or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet.
This includes the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, crawl, index, text-mine and otherwise use the full text for lawful purposes, subject to the attribution requirements of the applicable licence.
16. Contact
Questions concerning open access, copyright, licensing or permitted reuse should be directed to the Editorial Office using the official contact information published on the Frontiers in Business and AI website.
